Department Identity
Superior Court of California, County of Los Angeles
My first large project on this contract and certainly a favorite type of work. This project was a bit of a luxury as there was time to explore a wide range of options and was also a jump into the deep-end of presenting work to a group. Soft skills are perishable, and presenting this identity through several rounds of iterations to a group of 12+ people was a great opportunity. I’m proud of the work, but even more proud of stepping up and presenting.
And hey - I don’t have to be the salty guy! That feels really good.
A logo is just the start of an identity, you need guidelines and then the consistent application. Evolutions are mandatory over time and should be intentional, not ad-hoc. A few pages from our Identity Reference below.

Oh, I mentioned iterations at the top, so here’s a sampling of some of the iterations, concepts, and ideas explored along the way. Through this process I presented to the team through 6 or 7 full iterations, taking comments from the larger team and working with leadership to arrive at a final selection.
