RavenBot Workshop : Carvings from Q4, 2021

In Q4 I continued exploring familiar and new themes including some holiday fare with hits, misses and lots of learning. These are presented in reverse chronological order. Some may be available on my Etsy Shop.

#096, Transport Box Bot #96

21.12, Have a package that needs to be delivered - eventually? Well Transport Box Bot #96 is ready to waddle your package onto its destination. Hand carved from a chunk of basswood with dowel eyes and antennae. Painted with acrylic paint, metallic inks and a touch of fluorescent orange. 3" tall, 2" wide, 2-1/4" deep

#095, Bootsy Bourguignon

21.12, Leaning into adventure, Bootsy Bourguinon takes inspiration from some favorite trekkie-inspired eyewear and punkish polished black boots. Bootsy was hand carved from a solid chunk of basswood and painted with heavy body acrylics and drybrushed with a metallic copper finish. Glossy goggle, eye, beak and boots round out Bootsy's look. 5-3/8" tall, 3" wide, 2" deep.

#094, Slim “Huggy” Tenderfoot

21.12, This tall lanky alien is ready for a friendly hug with his posable arms (attached with rare earth magnets) and toothy grin. Handcarved from basswood and painted with artists grade acrylic in a combination of washes and drybrushing. Give him a hug today. 5" tall, approximately 1-1/2" square.

#093, Mario Clogenhop

21.12, Mario is one of my larger pieces and has been hand carved from basswood and painted with artist's grade acrylic and metalic ink. Mario Clogenhop wears his favorite bright orange slip-on rubber shoes. Mario's head is attached with rare earth magnets so he's got a full 360º field of view. 5-1/2" tall, 3" wide, 2-1/2" deep

#092, Monsignor Longbeak

21.12, Handcarved from basswood and painted in a deep charcoal finish with a touch of metallic ink, Monsignor Longbeak is impatiently awaiting your presence. 5" tall, 2-1/4" wide, 1-1/4" deep.

#091, Totembot #91

21.12, Totembot #91 is was hand carved from basswood and painted with metallic gold ink and acrylics. Totembot has seen service across the galaxy and is looking for its forever home. 2-3/4" tall, approximately 1-1/2" across.

#090, Jonathan Goldfrost

21.12, Jonathan Goldfrost is a hand carved basswood owl and has been painted with a combination of washes, dry-brushing and a final finish of metallic gold ink. While he's not especially excited to be here, I'm sure he'll be at home in your home. 4" tall, 1-1/2" wide, 1-3/4" deep

#085, Sir Thomas

21.11, Sir Thomas the grey owl was hand carved from basswood and painted with artists grade acrylic. Sir Thomas sports a red vest and green trowsers over brown boots. 5-1/4" tall, 1-5/8" wide and 1" deep

#084, Spooks Lurky

21.11, This spooky little birdcatbatthing is just waiting for its forever home and giving you the eye at the same time. Make it happy and place him on your favorite book shelf, or hide him someplace as a spooky surprise. 3" tall and approximately 2" by 2".

#083, Belvedere Stumproost

21.11, Belvedere Stumproost is a hand carved Owl perched on a stump. Carved from basswood with flat-plane knives and gouges, then painted with artists grade acrylic. Measures 5-1/2" tall and approximately 2" across at its base.

21.11, This small carving of a penguin perched atop an ice cube has been carved from basswood and painted with artists grade acrylic paint. 4" tall and approximately 1" around.

#079, SkepticOwl

21.11, SkepticOwl takes on each day with a grain of salt, or maybe an entire bucket. Hand carved from Basswood and painted in artist's grade acrylic. SkepticOwl awaits the opportunity to cast his judgemental gaze over your other curios. Measures 6" tall and approximately 2" by 2"

#078, Insomniac Al

21.11, Insomniac Al the owl is always up late at night stuck reading a favorite book cover to cover (again). Al was hand carved from basswood with Girtner and Refsal flat plane knives and then hand painted in artist grade acrylic. 3-1/4" tall and approximately 1-1/2" by 1-1/2" at its base.

#076, Sleepy Dave

21.10, Dave just needs more sleep but he just can’t get it, so here he sits on his log. Sleepy Dave was hand carved from basswood (Linden) with Girtner and Drake knives then finished off with Pfeil Swiss-Made gouges. Dave was then painted with heavy body acrylics. Sleep Dave is numbered, dated and initialed on the bottom. He measures 5” tall and approximately 1-1/2” around.

#075, Yorick

21.10, Whoooo are youuuu? Yorick ponders his existence perched atop someone’s lost noggin. Yorick was carved from basswood with flat-plane knives while his skull perch was carved with gouges. Yorick was then painted by the artist. Yorick measures 3-3/4” tall and 1” by 1” and is dated, numbered (#75) and initialed on the bottom.

#071, Zeff 71

21.10, High Speed Bombbot - This oddity started off as one idea and evolved into another. Zeff 71 has attitude and is ready to be hung up wherever you deem fit. This carving is made from basswood (also known as linden) and was hand carved with flat-plane style blades and a touch of pyrography for details. Small eyelet attached and threaded with beading thread (thin but very strong.) Zeff 71 measures approximately 5” wide, 4” long and 2-5/8” high. Numbered, dated and initialed.

#070, Quork Exploration Bot #70

21.10, This smiley space explorer has been hand carved from a piece of basswood with flat-plane whittling knives and finished with some pyrography textures and artist's grade acrylic paint and ink. The Quork Exploration Bot #70 is initialed, dated and numbered by the artist. Small eyelet and high-strength beading thread so it can be easily hung. Approximately 3" tall, 1-1/2" wide and 2-1/2" deep.
